How we give back

Lake McLaren Maintanence

Waimarino Kayak Tours regularly maintain the safe navigation of Lake McLaren and the Managapapa Canyon for the general public.

Following storms and high winds there is often slips, fallen trees and debris in the Lake. Our staff chuck on their safety gear and head out to clean up the area, clearing and stabilizing slips, removing fallen trees and clearing the lake of other hazards.

Boat Ramp Installation

Waimarino Kayak Tours worked alongside the Tauranga City Council and Trust Power to build and install a boat ramp at the Bottom Flat of Lake McLaren.

This boat ramp is now a safe and popular location for campers and lake users to launch their kayaks from.

The turf covered boat ramp is designed specifically to ensure that the hulls of kayaks do not get damaged when they are dragged across it.

Lake Rotoiti Weather Buoy

Waimarino Kayak Tours worked with Waikato University and funded a weather buoy that was located in the West Arm of Lake Rotoiti.

Lake Rotoiti is the busiest lake for recreational use in the Rotorua Region. The weather buoy provided accurate and real time information on the wind and swell of Lake Rotoiti.

This weather gauge did unfortunately get damaged in 2020 and is no longer operational.

Waimarino is currently working with BOPRC to install a new one in Summer 2022/23 at a cost to Waimarino. This will again be available for general public to assist at safe navigation.
